The first Peter Jackson film I saw was Dead/Alive. The sole reason I picked this film out, was because on the video cover it said, "The goriest film of all time." Wow, I thought, I have to see this. I was not dissapointed one bit by that statement, and I believe it is correct. But while being terribly disgusting, it is also very very funny. And for it's genre I think it is a very well made film.

Next I saw Heavenly Creatures, having absolutely no idea that they were made by the same guy. You wouldn't think so. But this film really did it for me, a genius film. The acting, story telling, photography, everything is near perfect. I just love the way it is put together. I sought out other films made by this guy. Dead/Alive? This guy made that, also some films called Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles.

I read up about Bad Taste, his first film. Made completely in his spare time, with his friends, and his own money. Now this is something I hoped to do someday, so I had to see what he had done. You couldn't believe how hard this film is to find on video. Scarecrow Video has it of course, but I wasn't ready to plop down a \\$150 deposit. I finally found it at Tower Records. Now I've only seen it once, I only have so much time, but I really enjoyed it. It's obvious that this was made on no money, but it is still better than 90% of the crap I've seen. Some very inventive f/x and camera work, for such a low budget. And Peter Jackson is great in one of the lead rolls, he's hilarious.

Meet the Feebles, can be best described and the Muppets on Acid. In fact I think it says that on the box. I've only seen about half, it didn't really appeal to me. I need to give it another chance, as this guy is one of my favorite up and coming directors.

The Frightners, I rushed out and saw the first weekend. The poster was incredibly cool, with the face exdending out of the white. I really love this film. Kind of a Ghostbusters for the 90's. The performances are ok, but the filmmaking is dead on. The way the scenes blend together are perfect. I ecspecially love the ending, when Michael J. is confused as to what time period it is, and keeps slipping between the past and the present. Also Peter set up his own f/x company with this movie, an incredible task, and the way they showed up in the movie, I say he completely succeded.

When I heard Peter was doing Lord of the Rings, I couldn't have been happier. I can't imagine a more perfect director for this series. I think this may turn him into a Spielberg / Cameron type director. One that has immence power, while also being very talented. Only I think it won't go to his head like the others. He seems like such a cool guy, I can't believe he answered fan's questions on Aint-it-cool-news about Lord of the Rings. I will try to find those questions, and add a link to them below. I am dying to see these films, I have no doublt in my mind that these will be fantastic, instant classics.

6/1/00 - I recently re-watched Meet the Feebles. Avoid this movie at all cost it's horrible. Really just made to gross people out, with none of the wit of Dead/Alive.

Download the The Lord of the Rings teaser that was released a few months ago. It's really amazing, it looks exactly like the books read. I'm dying to see these films. Another year and a half to go!

10/2/00 - It had been a while since I'd seen Bad Taste, so I watched it again this past weekend, and what an amazing film it is. Extremely low budget, but incredibily well made. Some great comedic performances, especially from Peter Jackson himself as the savior of the world, Derek. He is a bit out there, Derek really enjoys torturing these aliens that are attacking New Zealand. Peter also plays a small role as Robert, a dim-witted alien.

Some great photography, besides Evil Dead you've never seen such inventive stuff on such a low budget. In many ways it's better than the 1st Evil Dead, funnier, gorier, and just a better made film. To tell you the truth, I think Peter Jackson is a better filmmaker than Sam Raimi. Dead Alive being a better film than Evil Dead 2, and I expect Lord of the Rings to be much better than Spiderman, although I'm absolutely dying to see both.

1/18/1: Added a link for the Lord of the Rings teaser to the watch section. Also added 11 WAV clips for Bad Taste, Dead Alive and Heavenly Creatures to the sounds section.

3/5/1: Added the Lord of the Rings teaser poster to the sights section. It looks pretty badass. Aghhh!! Only 10 more months.

1/4/3: It's been a damn long time since I posted anything here. Two freaking episodes of Lord of the Rings have been released. There's nothing I can say, that hasn't already been said 1000 times. They're goddamn masterpieces. Can't wait to see Return of the King this winter.

I'm posting here, cause I just read about Peter Jackson doing a remake of King Kong. If anybody else was doing this, I'd be screaming "BLASPHEMY!!!" right now. The orginal is a classic among clasics. Nobody should be allowed to touch it. But somehow knowing that Peter Jackson is doing it, I know it's in the perfect hands. That he'll make a new classic to stand along with the old.
