6/8/00 -Again this is another director that I've been a fan of before I even knew what a director was. Pee-wee's Big Adventure is one of my all time favorite comedies. This film worked for me when I was 10, I love it even more now. Paul Reubens created a great character in Pee-wee, but it really took Burton to make the film work. I recently got the Dvd it was great to listen to the commentary of the two. They really appreciate each others craft. Burton loved making this film because he was able to do every genre within the film. The dvd also included something I have been dying to see, the boomerang bow-tie in use. (It's pretty funny, in the chase scene through WB studio at the end of the film. He wanders onto the set of a western, the security guards are following him, he throws the tie across the street and through a window. The tie returns and he escapes as the guards are looking the other way.) Burton also introduced something else vital to his films, the Danny Elfman score. This is one of my favorite movie scores of all time. I can hum along to the entire thing, I think the only other film I can do that with is Conan the Barbarian. He has collaborated with Danny on every one of his films except Ed Wood

7/21/00 - Beetlejuice, is pure Burton. A strange look at the afterlife, with an inspired performance from Michael Keaton in the title role. Batman, was the film that made Burton the A list director that he is today. Not nearly his best movie, but by far his most successful. One of the best comic book films to date. Jack Nicholson is way over-the-top as the Joker. Edward Scissorhands, another pure Burton creation. A comic, but touching look at a boy who has been created with scissors for hands. Johnny Depp is wonderful in this childlike role. Batman Returns, the better of his two Batman films. Michelle Pfeiffer is perfect as Catwoman. Ed Wood, a real life character who almost seems to have been created by Burton. A director so set in his vision, he doesn't realize he's creating some of the worst films ever seen. A wonderful film that was ignored by almost everybody when it was released. Mars Attacks!, a film understood by almost nobody, even Burton fans don't really enjoy it. But for some reason it just makes me crack up. I love it, a great spoof of alien invasion films. Sleepy Hollow, ahh.. just check out my review.

Burton is currently working on a Planet of the Apes remake. Why he feels like he needs to remake this famous sci-fi film is beyond comprehension. Mark Walhberg is playing the character made famous by Charlton Heston. I just can't imagine anyone else saying, "Get your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!". Anyways I'll have to see it simply because it is a Burton film. He is one of the most creative directors working today.

1/17/1: Added trailers for Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands to the watch section. Also added Planet of the Apes teaser poster to the sights section.

1/29/1: From Mars Attacks! added two video clips to watch section and four wav clips to the sounds section.

2/28/1: Just watched the Planet of the Apes Teaser. Looks like a Tim Burton film, especially that shot of the scarecrow. It's a pretty typical teaser, with the amped up music and the fast paced cuts of action. Visually it looks great, can't tell much about the story. Do they really have to say from the director of Batman and Sleepy Hollow? Tim Burton is one of the biggest name directors working. Also watch the interview for some more info and behind the scenes stuff. They're calling Apes, a re-imagining, not a remake, I guess that's a good name for it. I'm definitely looking forward to it, but if it wasn't a Tim Burton film, I'd be feeling a great sense of dread.

11/8/1: Saw Apes the night it opened. I thought it was okay, an average escapist sci-fi/action film. I then saw it again a week later with some friends, and man did I hate it. I was completely bored. The make-up still stood up as amazing, but everything else about it looked 10 times worse with a second viewing. Of course I'm still going to buy the damn thing when it's released on DVD, because I'm a completist and must have every Burton film available, no matter how bad.

Burton's next project better be something more personal. He's quickly turning into an average director for hire. His films are much better when they're his "own".

Oh yeah, I also fixed all the dead links below. All the sounds should be fixed too.
