I love the teen sex comedy genre. Growing up during the 80's you
had to. Seemed like every night HBO had on Revenge of the Nerds, Porky's,
Hardbodies, Just One of the Guys, or countless others. But by the time the
90's rolled around it seemed like everyone was to politically correct to
talk, and show sex in a dirty manner. Come on, every teenage guy's only
thoughts are about sex. What better way to get some of that pressure off,
than to watch a raunchy titty movie.
There are two kind of teen comedies, sex ala Private School, or the John
Hughes type, Sixteen Candles being the prime example. I guess my personal
favorite Better Off Dead would be of the Hughes variety. The best ones
manage to combine both, the classics being Fast Times at Ridgemont High
and Animal House. I think American Pie has that great mix.
The story is so very typical. Four senior virgin buddies make a pact to
get laid Prom Night. The acting is just so, so. But the set ups, and pay
offs are freaking great. There are so many classic moments in this movie.
It will have people talking about it for months. Here is a warning for you
horny dudes, only one pair of breasts makes an appearance. It is quite a
long and funny scene, so it is actually better than the standard quick
shot of a girl taking her bra off.
This is the kind of movie that can become a cross over hit, There's Something
About Mary, but it needs the teen audience to be a major hit. I will say
this is the best comedy of the year right now. It's the kind of movie
you can watch over and over, and the jokes will only get funnier. There
are so many subtle jokes, like ramming your shin into a coffee table while
your trying to look cool for a girl. This is also the kind of movie that
can start trends. If it's a hit, sure the teen sex comedy will make a
brief comeback. I think teens are tired of the She's All That types. I
will be seeing this again as soon as it is released.<%}%>
